CAT THERAPY

So Fiona, tell me about your dreams.”

“Well, Dr. Kirby, I’ve been having this dream where I’m being chased by dogs, and then suddenly I’m in a car, going to the vet. When I get there, the vet is a sadist.”

“All vets are sadists, Fiona.”

“But I know this vet hates me. He hurts me on purpose.”

“Who else has hurt you on purpose, Fiona?”

“Nobody. Except . . .”

“Except?”

“Well, my mother of course, when she was weaning me.”

“Do you think the vet might have been your mother, Fiona?”

“The vet was my mother, Dr. Kirby? That’s really preposterous. Surely you don’t expect me to pay you for this nonsense, do you?”

Well, anyway, that’s what a cat therapy session might sound like, if cats did therapy, but cats don’t do therapy.
